World Youth Day was established by Pope John Paul II in 1986 as an annual event to reach out to the youth of the world. It is an invitation from the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their faith around a particular theme. The theme for World Youth Day 2008 is "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witness." Acts 1:8.
