FOUR ARCHDIOCESAN STUDENTS RECEIVE
MORDECHAI ANIELEWICZ CREATIVE ARTS AWARDS

Four students from Archdiocesan High Schools will be among 42 area high school students receiving awards for their poetry, prose, art, sculpture, music and dance at a ceremony for the 1998-99 Mordechai Anielewicz Creative Arts Contest on the Holocaust on

The Awards Are:

Performance Art - Raina J. Leon of Eastwick, a senior at West Catholic High School - first prize for her dance entitled "Hopeful/Reality."

Poetry - Janine DiAngelo of West Chester, a senior at Bishop Shanahan High School - third prize for "The Question."

Honorable Mention for Poetry - David Donovan of East Fallowfield, a senior at Bishop Shanahan High School.

Honorable Mention for Poetry - Susan Ruane of Malvern, a senior at Bishop Shanahan High School.


The Mordechai Anielewicz Contest gives young people the opportunity to express their reactions to the Holocaust through a variety of art forms. It is named in memory of the young leader of the Jewish revolt against the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1943. The contest is sponsored by the Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education and the Memorial Committee for the Six Million Jewish Martyrs of the Jewish Community Relations Council in cooperation with the Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, Moore College of Art and Design, and Sons and Daughters of Holocaust Survivors.
