ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN PRIEST ASSIGNMENTS
Bishop To Retire as Pastor of Saint Monica Parish:
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announces that the Most Reverend Louis A. DeSimone, 79, retired Auxiliary Bishop and Pastor of Saint Monica Parish in Philadelphia for almost 25 years, will become Pastor Emeritus of Saint Monica Parish. He was ordained by John Cardinal O'Hara in May 1952. He has served at Saint Monica Parish since November 1976 and was ordained Bishop in 1981. In April 1997 Bishop DeSimone became Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Philadelphia. Prior assignments include Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Pastor of Saints Cosmas and Damian Parish in Conshohocken and faculty member at Saint Thomas More High School for Boys.
Reverend Paul S. Quinter, 45, editor of the Catholic Standard & Times since July 1991, will serve as Pastor of Saint Monica Parish. A new editor will be announced at a later date. Father Quinter will remain the Delegate of the Archbishop to Pro Life Organizations.
Secretary for Catholic Education To Serve as Pastor of Delaware County Parish:
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announces that Reverend Monsignor Philip C. Cribben, 64, Secretary for Catholic Education since October 1992, will become Pastor of Saint Anastasia Parish in Newtown Square, Delaware County. Monsignor Cribben was ordained by John Cardinal Krol in May 1962. Prior assignments include Pastor of Queen of Peace Parish in Ardsley, Montgomery County; Principal of Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield, Delaware County and Principal of Saint Hubert Hugh School in Philadelphia.
Reverend John J. Shellem, currently Pastor of Saint Anastasia Parish, will become Pastor Emeritus of Saint Anastasia Parish. A new Secretary for Catholic Education will be named at a later date.
All diocesan clergy appointments are made by Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua, Archbishop of Philadelphia. Appointments in religious orders are made by the individual communities. All of the changes take effect June 18, 2001.
