Cardinal Rigali to Preside at Groundbreaking for New Catholic School

Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia, will lead a groundbreaking ceremony for a new regional Catholic elementary school in West Brandywine Township, Chester County.

The Pope John Paul II Regional Catholic Elementary School will have a capacity for approximately 900 students. It will serve the Catholic parishes of St. Cecilia, St. Joseph, Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Stanislaus Kostka in Coatesville, Our Lady of Consolation in Parkesburg and St. Peter in West Brandywine. The school is expected to open in September 2006.

A reception for participants, including hundreds of Catholic faithful and elected officials of the area, will be held at Bishop Shanahan High School, Downingtown, immediately following the ceremony.

Note: A newly consolidated Catholic school in Philadelphia's Bridesburg section has also been named for the late pontiff. Pope John Paul II Elementary School will serve the children of All Saints and St. John Cantius Parishes beginning in September 2005.
