ALL JOIN HANDS! RALLY
300 students representing the nine Beacon Schools Programs of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will join supporters in forming a chain around City Hall in Philadelphia. The children will hold hands for 45 seconds to symbolize the 45,000 children without access to an afterschool program.

Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia, and Mayor John F. Street announced an unprecedented partnership between the Archdiocese and the City to install Beacon Programs at parish elementary schools on September 21, 2006. Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia administer the programs.
Beacons are community centers located in schools that serve families living in the same neighborhood. Beacons are a strategy for building supportive communities and academic success for children, youth and families in urban communities.
