CATHOLICS JOINING CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS
IN STREET-CORNER PRAYERS FOR END TO VIOLENCE IN PHILADELPHIA

Two Catholic parishes in Northwest Philadelphia are joining other Christian churches to pray in a public witness for peace and an end to violence in Philadelphia. "Fire on the Fourth Friday" includes Catholic parishes in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia:

Friday, July 27, 2007
7:00 p.m.

St. Raymond of Penafort Church
Williams Avenue and Vernon Road

St. Therese of the Child Jesus
Upsal Street between Ardleigh and Anderson Streets

The initiative was begun in May by a number of Christian churches in the city in which the pastors, congregants of the churches and members of the community stand on a street corner and pray on the fourth Friday of every month. The prayer vigils are a public way for Catholics and all Christians to pray together to God for peace among Philadelphians during this period of devastating violent crime.
