ARCHDIOCESEAN SCHOOLS MOBILIZE FOR HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS

Schools across the Archdiocese of Philadelphia have heeded the call of Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia, to support the people of Haiti and pray for their ongoing recovery. Here is a sample of school programs across the Archdiocese to bolster Haitian relief efforts:

Conshohocken Catholic School, 205 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, Montgomery County
In just one day, the students of Conshohocken Catholic School raised $1,100 for Haitian relief efforts. A friend of the school, Sr. Catherine Gerald, S.S.J., was scheduled to visit the neighboring Dominican Republic on January 14,just two days after the Haiti earthquake struck. Students quickly mobilized to raise funds for Sr. Catherine to bring with her to purchase medicine for the earthquake victims. A letter to parents was sent home on January 13, and by the time Sr. Catherine boarded a plane for the Dominican Republic the very next day, she had more than $1,000 to deliver in person for relief efforts. Sr. Catherine is still in the Dominican Republic and available for interviews for interested media.

Mother of Divine Providence Parish School, 405 Allendale Road, King of Prussia, Montgomery County
On Friday, January 29 at 8:30 a.m., Mother of Divine Providence Parish School's seventh grade will sell donuts to raise money for Catholic Relief Services. To help instill the Gospel value of charity in the students, teachers and school administration have encouraged the students to consider donating their own allowances or snack money. Many of the students have even taken on special chores at home to earn additional money to donate.

Our Lady of Confidence School of Special Education, 314 N. Easton Road, Willow Grove, Montgomery County
On Tuesday, February 2 at 1 p.m., Our Lady of Confidence students will dance the afternoon away to help support the relief efforts in Haiti. Students will be invited to Father Curran Hall at St. David Parish (316 N. Easton Road, Willow Grove, Montgomery County) to participate in the dance-a-thon to support the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

St. Athanasius-Immaculate Conception, 7105 Limekiln Pike, Philadelphia
On Friday, February 5 at 9:30 a.m., St. Athanasius-Immaculate Conception will hold a "Hoops for Haiti" basketball competition. The school's Junior Varsity boys' and girls' basketball teams will face off to raise funds for the Haiti relief efforts. Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults, and all ticket sales will be donated to Catholic Relief Services.

Lansdale Catholic High School, 700 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, Montgomery County
On Saturday, February 6 at 7:00 p.m., Lansdale Catholic will host the "Taking a Bow for Haiti" talent show in lieu of the school's annual Valentine's Day dance. The school's Personal and Organizational Leadership Class presented a proposal to school administrators outlining their idea to have a fundraising event instead of the yearly Valentine's Day dance. The school's administration gladly accepted the students' proposal to host the "Taking a Bow for Haiti" talent show. All proceeds for the event will be donated to Catholic Relief Services for the victims of earthquake in Haiti.
