The flu season directives which have been in force since October 18, 2009 provided a necessary pastoral response to the health risks associated with the H1N1 Flu. The current information available from the Center for Disease Control confirms that the 2009 H1N1 Flu has significantly dissipated throughout the country and especially in our region. Individuals must still be encouraged to use good sense if they are ill and have flu-like symptoms when they are in group settings.
Therefore, with the notable change in the circumstances that prompted the flu season directives, it seems timely to terminate them. In the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, in all parishes and institutions, as of Sunday, March 14, 2010 the exchange of the sign of peace and the distribution of the Precious Blood for the faithful may be reintroduced in the manner indicated by the liturgical norms.
