ARCHDIOCESAN SUMMER CAMP FOR DEAF/HARD OF HEARING CHILDREN
WELCOME PAGEANT GUESTS

ELEVEN CONTESTANTS FROM MISS DEAF AMERICA PAGEANT WILL VISIT CAMP OVERBROOK: IN SIGN 2010


Camp Overbrook: In Sign 2010, sponsored by the Deaf Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will welcome 11 Miss Deaf America Contestants from across the country to their annual summer camp. The contestants represent several states traveling from as far as Hawaii. Several of the young women will perform their talent routines for the campers and present their chosen platforms. One of the visiting contestants has a special connection to the summer camp. Victoria Flis, Miss Deaf Pennsylvania 2010, is a former Camp Overbrook camper. She attended the first Camp Overbrook: In Sign camp in the summer of 1994 at age 7. The campers, ages 6-14, will have the opportunity to meet and greet the contestants.

This year the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) will host its national conference in Philadelphia. Every two years, a young deaf woman is chosen as NAD Miss Deaf America during the NAD Conference. This year's competition will take place July 7th thru July 9th. The Miss Deaf America Ambassadorship Program recognizes excellence in the deaf community.

Camp Overbrook: In Sign 2010 is an annual two-week summer day camp (June 28th thru July 9th) for deaf and hard of hearing children, which provides summer learning and Catholic community.
