Music for the Mass will be provided by a mariachi band. The Mass will be preceded by a procession and mananitas, traditional serenading of Our Lady of Guadalupe with hymns by the mariachis as well as choirs and children's groups that represent the Guadalupe apparitions. A schedule of events is below.
1) 6:30 p.m.: Faithful gather at Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish (17th and Morris Streets, Philadelphia, PA) and Visitation B.V.M. Parish (B Street and Lehigh Avenue, Philadelphia, PA) to process to the Cathedral on foot.
2) 8:00 p.m.: Mananitas at the Cathedral
3) 10:00 p.m.: Mass celebrated by Cardinal Justin Rigali
4) 11:00 p.m.: Conclusion of celebration
Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas. This is the second consecutive year that this Feast Day Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral due growing popularity. As in the past, additional celebrations will take place in many parishes of the Archdiocese.
