ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA TO PARTICIPATE IN
NATIONAL MARCH FOR MARRIAGE IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Faithful throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will join thousands at our nation's capital in the annual March for Marriage, an event giving witness to the unique dignity of marriage as a lifelong union of one man and one woman.

Thursday, June 19, 2014
10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
U.S. Capitol Grounds
First Street, NW and Constitution Avenue
Washington, D.C., 20006

Last year's inaugural March for Marriage brought thousands of supporters to the National Mall for a rally and march to the Supreme Court. Speakers at this year's March include San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage, Brian Brown, President of the National Organization for Marriage, and Reverend Ruben Diaz, New York Senator and President of the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization

"By its very nature, marriage is ordered not only to companionship and mutual support, but also - and even more fundamentally - to the procreation and education of children. This is why every child deserves a family where the father loves the mother, and the mother loves the father," said Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. "Thus it's vital that the Church keep working to defend the integrity of marriage. As Catholics we should avail ourselves of the opportunities, whenever we can, to witness to the truth about God's plan for marriage."
